Botanical Name: Rosa'Cécile Brünner'
Rose Cécile Brünner, also known as Mlle Cécile Brünner or Maltese Rose, is a polyantha rose cultivar that was first introduced in France in 1881.
It is believed to be a hybrid of two other rose cultivars: a miniature China rose called 'Mlle de Sombreuil' and a polyantha rose called 'Souvenir d'un Ami'. The precise parentage of this cultivar is not entirely clear, but it is thought to be a chance seedling that appeared in the garden of Cécile Brünner, a French rose breeder, in the late 19th century. The rose was subsequently named in her honour.
Rose Cécile Brünner is a hardy plant that can grow up to 3 meters tall and 1.2 meters wide. It prefers full sun exposure and well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. It is a relatively disease-resistant rose and tolerates humid areas making it suitable for a variety of temperature ranges in Australia.
This rose is often used as a decorative plant in gardens, particularly in formal gardens or as a low hedge. It is also used in floral arrangements due to its small, delicate flowers.
